Admission and audition information by diploma

String Instruments Performance Diploma

Information date: January 18, 2024

Entry criteria

The requirements described three possible Chinese-language pathways: at least three consecutive years of full-time Chinese-language education at secondary or higher level; HSK Level 3; or a YCMA Chinese-language entrance test with a stated pass mark of 75 out of 100.

A separate program outline also referred to a grade-nine erhu examination result. Because the two records are not fully aligned, the academy must confirm the current prerequisite.

Audition or completion criteria

The requirements included an audition and allowed either a live audition or a submitted recording.

It listed one representative work by Liu Wenjin or Wang Jianmin; one traditional work, Ting Song or Erquan Yingyue; and one work selected from The First Erhu Rhapsody or Yi Zhi Hua. Works of greater difficulty could be substituted.

Plucked Instruments Performance Diploma

Entry criteria

The requirements described the same three Chinese-language pathways: three years of full-time Chinese-language education, HSK Level 3, or a YCMA entrance test with a stated pass mark of 75 out of 100.

A separate course outline referred to a grade-nine Central Conservatory guzheng examination result. Admissions must resolve this difference before the requirement is treated as current.

Audition or completion criteria

The requirements included an audition and permitted either a live audition or a submitted recording.

Applicants were asked to prepare one traditional work and one contemporary work. Works of greater difficulty could be substituted.

Writing for Theatre, Musical & Film Diploma

Information date: November 8, 2023

Entry criteria

The requirements stated that applicants must be over 18 and have completed junior high school.

It described Chinese proficiency equivalent to a Chinese junior-high graduate and stated that HSK Level 4 was sufficient. It listed no English-language requirement.

Audition or completion criteria

The admission page also listed 80% attendance, a mark of at least 60% in every course, and submission of all assignments and projects. Those are completion conditions, not admission requirements.
