Founders and leadership
Biography
After completing doctoral study at McMaster University, Feihong Nan founded the Canadian division of Yuan Yin Group, an organization whose history was traced to 1920. She brought more than twenty-five years of guzheng and qin performance and teaching experience, held a highest-level guzheng performance-and-teaching certificate, and placed first in a national guzheng competition.
Nan recorded guzheng and qin for Ron Korb’s album Asia Beauty. The album was nominated for Best New Age Album at the 2016 Grammy Awards, received recognition at the 2015 Global Music Awards and the 2016 International Acoustic Music Awards, and was also considered in world- and global-fusion album categories.
Her community work included annual fundraising concerts at the Living Arts Centre in support of SickKids. She coordinated more than 300 performers and volunteers each year in music, heritage, and multicultural programs, and received a Heritage Legacy Award for cross-generational cultural work.
Her Greater Toronto Area appearances included the Carassauga China Pavilion from 2010 to 2019; Mississauga City Hall Lunar New Year events from 2015 to 2020; Canada Kiwanis Music Festivals from 2015 to 2018; Sony Centre and CIBC Lunar New Year programs in 2019; and Bollywood Monster Mashup at Mississauga Celebration Square in 2015 and 2018.
