Biography
Tian Shufeng taught erhu at the School of Music of Shanxi University and completed a Master of Arts degree before undertaking graduate supervision. Tian studied erhu with Yang Zhongcai, received undergraduate guidance from Tan Xiaoxin, entered graduate study at Tianjin Conservatory of Music, and received further guidance from Liu Changfu, Lu Rirong, Chen Chaoru, and Song Fei.
Performance awards included a gold medal at the Lanhua Cup Singapore International Music and Dance Competition, an Excellence Award in the eighth Chinese Music Golden Bell erhu competition, and an Outstanding Performance Award in the third national instrumental-performance competition.
Tian formed the Xintian Bow String Ensemble, which won a professional-group silver medal at the first international Chinese-orchestra competition in Hong Kong. Research papers received first prize in a national music-education teaching-paper competition and second prize in the second Shanxi music-education paper competition. Students under Tian’s guidance also received professional awards at national, provincial, and university levels.
