Biography
Wang Xiao entered the Central Conservatory of Music as a recommended undergraduate in 2012 and was admitted to its graduate program with the top professional entrance result in 2017. During conservatory study, Wang participated in major domestic and international exchanges and served as principal of the China Youth Chinese Orchestra.
In April 2019, Wang presented a first solo recital in Beijing. In May 2019, China Record Corporation released the debut solo album Bie Yi Nan, followed by a recital at Tianjin Conservatory of Music.
In 2016, Wang won a gold award in the young professional group of the third Dunhuang Cup competition in Shanghai and placed fourth in the professional group of the Yanzi Cup Sun Wenming competition, where the first prize was left vacant. At the 2018 My Motherland Global Huqin Competition, Wang received a Global Top Ten Performer award and a Fenghua Group B Gold String Award.
In 2019, Wang placed first in both the preliminary and final rounds of the Chinese Instrumental Music Television Competition before finishing fourth overall, and also participated in the twelfth Chinese Music Golden Bell Awards.
Sir Curtis Price commented on Wang’s performance of Ballad of Lan Huahua. Danish string maker Larsen praised a performance of Zigeunerweisen and developed erhu strings; Wang had used the first Larsen erhu strings during a 2007 CCTV competition.
