Biography
Yang Zhongcai studied at the Inner Mongolian Arts Academy and Shanghai Conservatory of Music, with guidance from erhu educators Liu Changfu, Wu Zhimin, and Song Guosheng. He won a bronze medal in the professional erhu section of a national Chinese instrumental-music competition and participated in the erhu community of the Chinese Musicians Association.
He cofounded YCMA and served as its director, music director, and head of erhu. His teaching also included erhu instruction through Vancouver School Board Continuing Education, a master class at the Tzar’s Village Music Festival, and work with students who later assumed roles in local orchestras and music groups.
Yang adjudicated at the Calgary Kiwanis Music Festival and was inducted into the Global Chinese Artists Hall of Fame. His professional work brought together erhu performance, curriculum development, ensemble preparation, and artistic direction.
